Iridology is an alternative healing practice that involves examining the iris to detect disease. The iris is the colorful part of the eye that surrounds the pupil. Iridologists look for certain markings that correlate to the iridology chart of organs. This chart is considered a map to the internal organs. Iridologists look for black markings, first and foremost. Black markings are thought to be dying tissue that is present when there is scarring. This dying tissue correlates to certain organs and can indicate the presence of imbalance or disease. Iridologists also look for white dots or lines that are thought to indicate inflammation. In addition, they look for rings and arcs that may indicate spasms of an organ.
By consulting an iridology chart you may also look for imbalances and markings on your iris for yourself. For instance, on the right side of the iris you may find problems with the spleen, heart and lungs. The left side will indicate the health of the thyroid, larynx and nose. Many charts or maps may be found online.
Iridology Schools and Courses: Studying the Eye
There are many iridology schools and courses all over the world. When studying iridology, students will learn iris photography, the iridology chart and body systems, eye color correlations, eye discolorations, eye fibers, nerve wreaths, and other eye markings and health issues. Oftentimes these courses will also include education about food and herbs and how they relate to iridology.
